Although it might not be in the news as much as previously, the conflict in the east of the country is still on-going. Many people have had to leave their homes to find safety in other parts of Ukraine. Up to May 2016, there had been 1.7 million people registered as displaced. Many of them experience poverty and are at risk of homelessness – they are in need of humanitarian assistance and turn to Depaul Ukraine for support.Read More
Project Vista is an Award-Winning approach to tackling homelessnessFebruary 12, 2018 11:31 amThe LHF are proud to support the work of Project Vista, and delighted that they were successful in the London Homelessness Awards 2017. This article by Jane Sanders on Network Homes explains what the partnership project is all about, and originally appeared on the National Housing Federation website. Project Vista is a unique partnership between Network Homes and New Horizon Youth Centre (NHYC) that works to create positive futures and break the cycle of homelessness amongst young people in London.Read More
How Safe is the Safety Net?January 4, 2017 3:36 pmThe LHF has supported the London Network of Nurses and Midwives in Homelessness for a number of years. We help to fund their annual conference, which brings together professionals from across London to share good practice and discover what other projects are working on. The conference also asks the difficult questions and challenges assumptions to help drive the policy agenda. In 2016 the theme was “How Safe is the Safety Net?” and speakers and small groups discussed the changes in the system and the impact they were having on homeless people.Read More
Supporting Catering at the MarginsNovember 27, 2015 2:14 pmA grant award of £22,000 from the LHF has been used at the Union Chapel in Islington to support the catering training programme.
The London Housing Foundation is funding the 3rd and 4th stages of the unique Margins Catering Project. This offers homeless people experience and training in catering. It is unique in two ways: firstly the business is real, providing the catering for all the gigs at the famous Union Chapel in Islington over the year. If the service doesn’t work, people don’t get fed and money is lost. Second, all participants get paid a real wage. This is not a voluntary job or a placement, it is a real job. Sending Staff to the USA!November 27, 2015 2:09 pmA grant award of £15,000 from the LHF was used to send 6 managers from St Mungo’s Broadway to the USA to study how they tackle homelessness.
The team from St Mungo’s Broadway visited homelessness projects and met key political and community leaders. Their remit was to see what we can learn from services in the US.
The team decided to go to Portland and San Francisco. These are two cities with large homeless populations, but they take a very different approach. San Francisco recently launched a plan to end homelessness in ten years, and Portland has made rough sleeping illegal.
