The prestigious London Homelessness Awards 2017 open on Monday 10th April. The winners of the award will be announced in October and receive £30,000. There are further prizes of £15,000 and £10,000.
The London Homelessness Awards are the country’s leading homelessness awards and look to recognise and highlight innovative practice in the homelessness sector in London. As well as the significant cash prize, the winning projects receive support to publicise their project.
The awards are open to all projects in London working in the field of homelessness including those from the voluntary sector, housing and social services departments, NHS and related public sector health organisations, registered social landlords, or a partnership of agencies.
Last year’s winners were the House of St Barnabas who offer support, training and work experience to ex homeless people in their unique members club in Soho.
Ceri Sheppard, Employment Academy Director at the House of St Barnabas said “Winning the award was fantastic for us. It was a huge honour and had a very positive effect on our staff and clients. We have spent the money training more homeless and ex homeless people to be qualified baristas.”
The London Borough of Croydon and the Refugee Council and also won prizes of £15000 and £10,000. Mark Fowler, Director of Gateway and Welfare in the People Department at the London borough of Croydon said: “This was a well-deserved award for the team and has helped remind them what a great job they are doing. We have used the money to expand the support we can offer people through the neighbourhood offices. I recommend those interested in submitting an application that they do so, a great experience providing a great opportunity to meet other organisations rising to the challenge of homelessness”
Laura Johnson is the Director of Housing at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and chairs the judging panel. She said “We are very proud to support these awards. A lot of excellent work goes on every day in the sector in London and these awards celebrate and highlight that work.”
The London Homelessness Awards are sponsored by the London Housing Foundation, Crisis, Shelter and the London housing Directors.
