Conference for Nurses and Midwives working with the homeless

The London Housing Foundation is working with the London Network of Nurses and Midwives in Homelessness to present a unique conference in April 2014.

The conference, ‘Transforming London Homeless Nursing Services’ is aimed at nurses, allied professionals, and voluntary sector staff working in homeless health across London.  Speakers include Professor Viv Bennett (Director of Nursing Public Health, NHS England), Helen Mathie (Policy Director Homeless Link) and Caroline Alexander (Director of Nursing, London, NHS England).

Organiser Samantha Dorney-Smith said “London nurses are at the forefront of trying new approaches to delivering homeless healthcare.  This conference is organised by nurses for nurses to enable nurses and allied professionals working in homelessness to discuss how we can meet the challenges we face.  We work with the largest numbers of street homeless people in Europe in one of its busiest cities and it is vital that health care professionals working with homeless people work in the most effective and joined up way.”

The conference will be held at the Crypt, St. Martin-in-the-Fields on Friday 4th April 2014. Tickets are only £26 due to the generous funding provided by the London Housing Foundation and the Florence Nightingale Foundation.

Margaret Malcolm, Acting Director at the LHF said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring this conference.  Recent figures have shown that rough sleeping has risen by 13% in the last year* and services are facing increased demand. Homeless people often do not access health services easily and it is vital that the health professionals work together to take the services to where they are most needed.”
