London Homelessness Awards are now Open!
This year’s London Homelessness Awards are now OPEN with a prize fund of £60,000!
To submit an application for your organisation or service go to www.lhawards.org.uk where you can also find more details about the awards and view videos of previous winners. Now in their 22nd year, these prestigious awards are sponsored by the London Housing Foundation, Shelter, Crisis, the London Housing Directors, and the Mayor of London. As well as a share of the prize fund of £60,000 and a specially designed trophy and certificate, winners receive a range of business development initiatives, including a specially commissioned video, PR, communications, and marketing support, access to the LHF professional development programme and travel bursaries and further opportunities to bid for grants.
Last year’s winners were Pathway. Their Chief Executive Alex Bax said
I recently took the trophy to the St George’s Homelessness Inclusion Team’s one-year anniversary event. This brought a real focus on the next year and where the next round of funding might come from. And showing the video helps us all to think about the work we’re doing. We intend to make more use of the film in national meetings as well to show partners and stakeholders across the country the impact Pathway teams can have.
The awards are now recognised as one of the most prestigious in the sector, recognising the significant achievements and excellent work of teams and projects across London working with people who are or are at risk of becoming, homeless. The awards culminate in a high-profile celebration event in central London in October with a key speaker presenting the trophies and cheques and the premiere of the specially commissioned award winners’ films.
Chair of the judging panel Simon Dow said:
The judges look for projects that can show they directly improve the lives – and life chances – of those who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been up and running for as little as one year or are much more established. We don’t mind if your team is employed or uses volunteers or whether you are a charity, local authority, or another type of ‘not for profit’ agency, the Awards celebrate those organisations in London that focus on the homeless and we are keen to hear about all types of services, ideas, and initiatives that can demonstrate how homelessness can be reduced.
The application process is straightforward and streamlined, and shortlisted projects are visited by one of the judging panel to allow them to fully understand the project. There is also plenty of advice and support from LHF before the final presentations to the panel are made.
