Specialist Conference announced for health workers in homelessness

The London Network of Nurses and Midwives in Homelessness has announced the third annual conference aimed at health workers in the homelessness sector

Sponsored by the London Housing Foundation, the conference will look at groups of homeless people who are in danger of falling through the net: vulnerable women; migrants and people with complex needs.

The London Network of Nurses and Midwives Homelessness Group said “We all know what a fantastic job staff are doing across London in trying to help people negotiate the system and get back on their feet. But we are all finding that for some groups of people this is becoming increasingly difficult. To be blunt, the safety net is less safe than it was. We will be using this conference to explore what can be done to make it safer.”

The conference will provide plenty of opportunities for homeless healthcare professionals and allied workers to network and share good practice; but also to join together in order to voice and debate their collective concerns.

Speakers this year include:

• Gerry Dickson, Caseworker, Groundswell

• Dr Adrian McLachlan, Chair, Homeless Health Transformation Board

• Dr Alistair Story, Clinical Lead, Find and Treat

Our expert panel who will be debating ‘How Safe is the Safety Net’ comprises:

• Garry Money, Associate Director, London Homeless Health Programme

• Hong Tang, Head of Health in the Justice System, NHS England

• Suzanne Munroe, CEO / Lead Nurse, Freedom from Torture

• Dr Claire Shorthall, Family Clinic Manager, Doctors of the World

• Ronald Kelly, Lawyer, Southwark Law Centre
