London Housing Foundation has awarded Margins £22,500 over 3 years to help support the expansion of their successful Supported Employment Programme.
The Supported Employment Programme employs and intensively supports trainees with experience of homelessness and/or mental ill health. Many are ex-offenders, the majority are long term unemployed. Trainees range in age from 18 – 58 and are paid the national living wage.
Most trainees work in the Margins kitchen, learning professional catering skills and providing the catering for events at the Union Chapel. Other specialties are available and the project is looking to expand the options available.
Andrew Mitchell at Margins said:
We are very proud of the programme which employs people who would struggle to find work elsewhere. It is a mixture of real world work, training and intensive support and enables trainees to make genuine progress. 77 trainees have gone through the programme since we started in 2013 and over half have gone into work or further training.
Ian Brady, the Executive Chair of London Housing Foundation said:
We are very pleased to be able to work in partnership with Margins and continue to support the excellent work they do. We have decided to hold the London Homelessness Awards at the Union Chapel later this year and it is good to know that Margins will be providing all the catering.
