What’s in a Name?

London Housing Foundation is now London Homelessness Foundation.

At a time when the challenges of ending rough sleeping feel greater than ever, and agencies are busier than ever, it might seem surprising that we’ve spent time thinking about our name. But the LHF board felt it was important that our name reflects the work we actually do.

We’ve never been a housing provider, and we are not a housing association – though we support many. Our focus has always been on people: those who work with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our impact comes from supporting, challenging, and developing the people and organisations that make a difference. We use our resources to add value to the sector.

Though our organisation may not be large, we amplify our impact by collaborating with others: starting conversations, building networks, embracing risk, supporting new ideas, and promoting what works.

We do this by:

  • Supporting research into homelessness and services for people experiencing it
  • Providing development opportunities for sector managers and leaders
  • Creating connections across the homelessness sector
  • Funding innovative projects tackling homelessness
  • Providing grants for, and learning from, international initiatives
  • Sharing learning from funded projects with relevant organisations
  • Offering consultancy and core funding for homelessness organisations
  • Running the London Homelessness Awards to highlight innovative approaches

The change to London Homelessness Foundation was made to be clear, accurate, and simple – and without diverting resources from our work.

So please note our new name and logo. Rest assured, everything else stays the same. Our mission remains as clear as ever: supporting and championing the work to end homelessness in London.

– Ian Brady, Executive Chair, London Homelessness Foundation
